Melanotan 2 (MT-2) is a synthetic cyclic lactam heptapeptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), originally developed at the University of Arizona by Dr Victor Hruby and colleagues. It is a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist with binding affinity for MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R receptor subtypes. In published research, MT-2 has been extensively studied in melanocyte biology, melanogenesis pathway activation assays, and melanocortin receptor binding affinity studies. Its broad receptor profile and high potency have made it one of the most widely referenced melanocortin peptides in over 200 peer-reviewed publications.
